RECO

REGO 10 DEC 83

Gentlemen,

General Letter of the Commander-in-Chief on the China Station.

*

“Audacious”, at Yokohama.

22nd October, 1883.

15. The “Espoir” returned to Hong Kong from Canton on the 2nd October with the prisoner Logan, whom the Merchant Vessels declined to convey. He is now lodged in the Government Gaol at Victoria.

After giving leave to the Ship’s Company, the “Espoir” again proceeded to Canton where she and the “Swift” now remain.

The angry feeling among the Canton populace, caused by the leniency of the sentence passed on the prisoner Logan, has not yet subsided, but a further outbreak is apprehended.
