Government Fire Brigade, I have appointed to succeed him, under the powers vested in the Governor in Council by Ordinance No. 4 of 1868,

George Horspool, the Chief Inspector of Police.

Mr. Horspool is in every way qualified personally to fill this post under the Superintendent (W...____ Hodehouse). Moreover, in my report on the Fire Brigades, in my despatch No. 193 of the 20th August Ultimo, I showed that it is important that the Officers should be men in authority.

It has been arranged that Mr. Leigh, the Engineer of the Government Fire Brigade, shall act also as Assistant Superintendent.

I continue to be well satisfied with the efficiency of the Brigade, and do not propose to make any further change at present.
