above witness has committed a
perjury.
The statement that the eleven prisoners went to their house and attacked it is
a mere
especially a
Aver
glaring falsehood. From the informations which I received, no attack has ever been made on their house;
at the time, when the prisoners confined to their house for mourning the loss of one of their relatives.
According to the informations received, and which I communicated to Your Excellency in my previous petition the idea of the prisoners attacking the house of Jai-ho-pau is simply ridiculous, is an
absurd. Jai-ho-pau
was the head
of 4000 men while the whole party of the prisoners did not exceed 100 men.
Jai-ho-pau
the
was the
terror of all
the district; and the same
Prefect was
afraid of him: who could imagine
for a
a
moment that these few weak
people should
go to attack him in his strong hold? On the contrary the witnesses' party have always been the
aggressive one. Jai-ho-pau caused the
death of five of the prisoners party by torturing
them in his own house, he tried to burn the prisoners' house with Kerosine and to attack with 40 men all well armed the ancestral hall where the prisoner party was collected so that these latter have to shut and bar the doors of the hall to save themselves, their wives and children. In
a word the witnesses are
perjurers, impudent.
