The next step taken, in course, was to consult the Attorney-General, (Mr O'Malley) whose opinion is annexed :-
"These men were arrested, and the charge against them was investigated under the Provisions of "Ordinance 2 of 1850; and they are now detained in prison until the gaoler receives an order from the Governor as to their disposal.
"I have examined the documents including the communications from the Chinese Government, the warrants of arrest, and the depositions; and I am of opinion that the provisions of Ordinance 2 of 1850 have been substantially complied with.
