Sir,
Enclosure 3
RECR
C.A.
1821
REGS | FEB 24
Hong Kong, 11th July 1883
With regard to the appointment of a Chinese Accountant for the Supreme Court, I have the honour, on behalf of the Board of Examiners, to inform you that the board, after consulting with Mr. Ackroyd, and several of the Chinese, has come to the conclusion that it will not be possible to find a qualified accountant who knows English. The Board therefore thinks that the Accountant's reports should be translated into English by the Colonial Secretary.
Honourable W. H. Marsh, C.M.G.
