Court, the creation of which was sanctioned by Your Lordship.
On receipt of Your Lordship's despatch I caused a reference to be made to the Chief Justice
as to the best mode of making the appointment
in
question. In his annexed reply His Honour states the importance of obtaining the services of an Accountant acquainted with both English and Chinese, and recommends that

In accordance with
this suggestion the annexed advertisement was published in
the Government Gazette and other newspapers. Eleven applications were
received in reply, which were referred to the Board of
Examiners on the 1st ultimo.
On July 11th ultimo the
Board furnished a report which I have the honour to enclose. It is
there stated that no qualified
applicant...
