1. Arthur - of the March 1878
2. Kinney - 15 May 1878
3. May - 1 December 1878
4. Hutchison - 17 January 1879
5. Caldwell - 8th September 1880
whilst if the order of appointment or confirmation of the Secretary of State were followed they would stand thus:-
1. Hutchison - appointed 8th Sept. 1880
2. May - confirmed - 6th Dec 1882
3. Kinney - " 6th Dec 1882
4. Caldwell - confirmed - 6th January 1883
5. Arthur - not got confirmed
Putting them again in the order of their professional qualifications I should imagine that they would be placed as follows:
