Everard, one

of the members of the

British Legation at Peking, happened

to be on a visit to Hongkong, and ... offered to take Mr. May back with

him.

obvious duty to anticipate Your Lordship's decision by authorizing Mr May to proceed to Peking with Mr Everard. I annex a copy of the
