1882. It will thus be seen that this last-mentioned despatch has not been overlooked, without reply.

3. I have caused diligent search to be made in the correspondence with the Colonial Department; and I am assured that I have already written reports not only respecting every point raised by that Department since my arrival in Hongkong, but also respecting all the questions raised under previous administrations, and which I found pending unanswered.

If the Colonial Department can discover that there is any point inadvertently overlooked, I request Your Lordship to cause it to be specified in precise terms; when it will receive my immediate attention.

Here I would gladly stop. But as it was my duty, on public grounds, to submit in my despatch, No. 16710, M: 193, of the 20th August last, on the authority of the Attorney General, that the despatch No. 124 of the 14th June ultimo, appeared to ignore...
