to which should be added £100 her paid to the Postmaster by the Imperial Post Office for special Imperial work. In other words, Mr. Lister receives an aggregate salary of £1000; which cannot be regarded as excessive, considering the varied and laborious duties which he performs in a most satisfactory manner.

4. In common with the Executive Council and with the Colonial Legislature, I strongly recommend that the present provisional arrangement should be declared to be permanent; in other words, that henceforward the Colonial Treasurer should be ex-officio also Postmaster General and Collector of Stamp Revenue with his present salary of $5,980, and, of course, a seat in the Executive Council. Mr. Lister believes that this arrangement would be very convenient for the public service. By general consent, Mr. Lister is peculiarly qualified to hold the Treasurership.
