Memorandum by the Colonial Treasurer on the subject of the Military Contribution, for the information of His Excellency the Governor.
The Military Contribution has been paid since January 14, 1865; consequently, to the end of 1882, the Colony has paid £380,000.
I have to point out, however, that whereas when the amount of the Contribution was first fixed, the average value of the Dollar was 4/4%, the average value of the Dollar is now 13/4½.
So that the Colony, which raises its Revenue in Dollars, is really paying...
