that an application from Dr Doberck (Mr Doberch de Salles), whom he brought
(Mrs Eliza
with him to this Colony,
and who lives with him as his housekeeper, should
be appointed, for the reasons stated by him, and paid
by the Colonial Government,
as second assistant in the Government Observatory.
2. I laid this application before the Executive Council,
where it was stated that the relations between Dr Doberck and his proposed
female assistant are notoriously not of a purely scientific nature;
and that the Colonial Legislature would probably object to
the appointment in question.
Under these circumstances, it was decided, with my approval, that Dr Doberck should be informed that his application
