of an appeal made to the Community and requesting grant from public funds in order to provide an organ for a new Cathedral.

2. Having regard to the views of your Lordship's recent despatches, and those of your predecessor on the subject of Government grants for ecclesiastical purposes, I have refrained from making any comments on the present application and have simply submitted it for Your Lordship's decision. I may mention, however, that I believe that the feeling in the Colonial Legislature, and in this Colony generally, would be strongly in favour of the gradual, rather than the complete and immediate withdrawal of grants of this nature.
