who has been Acting Superintendent of the Gaol at Hongkong since the equally sudden death, nearly a year ago, of the late Mr. John Nocholy. Mr Stayward was a very meritorious officer.
3. Your Lordship On the 15th instant I addressed to the following telegram: "Stayward dead; when will Victoria Gaol Superintendent arrive?"
2. With the advice of Executive Council, I have made the best, indeed the only, possible arrangement at the present moment, by entrusting the provisional charge of Gaol, until the arrival of the new Superintendent, to Mr .... the Assistant Master.
4. I have stated in several previous despatches that it is very important that the new trained Superintendent should be at his post as soon as possible. His speedy arrival has become still more urgently necessary.
