I am grateful for your kindness in having extended my vacation leave to two months, thus placing the Governor on the same footing in this respect with the officers of this Government.
In the opinion of Sir Harry Parkes, the British Minister in China, and all other competent judges, my recent visit to him at Peking will be productive of important advantages in the Queen's service. But on this point, I shall take an early opportunity of addressing Your Lordship more fully.
