The strained relations
between France and China have
had the effect of almost entirely
putting a stop to business in Hongkong. A very large quantity
of specie is continually being exported from here to Canton; more has been exported during the present month than during
the whole of last year.
This specie, I presume, to be
withdrawn by Traders of Canton
in consequence of the stagnation
of business.
