It is evident that the results of closing the Normal school must be attended with some weight of unfairness to several people, the object to be aimed at is to prevent the unfairness falling too heavily on any individual. The fact, that Mr. Macarthur, Mrs. Stishive, Mr. May and Wormskinney were after 5 years' service still holding only acting appointments (when Mr. May was removed to the Normal school) in an institution regarding masters as being firmly appointed who should be confirmed after a sufficiently long trial, seems itself unfair.
Mr. Macarthur, Mrs. Stishive, Mr. Kinney and Mr. Jaldwill would have remained unconfirmed to this day if I had not taken the matter shortly after my arrival. Mr. May knew nothing of this nor was aware that it could possibly affect him till the confirmations arrived (U.S.O.340, 1885). This again seems unfair to Mr. May.
