Comansive Imming has copy of your letter of 30th August, in which you ask if there is sufficiently strong Naval force to allay the great apprehension that exists amongst the residents at Canton.
I am informed that the Commodore at once complied with your request by arriving the gunboats "Britt" and "Espoir" with a swift party of sailors from the "Victor Emmanuel".
