Methodist Bishop may be & Bishop.

unseemly

This led unhappily to attempts on the part of the Chaplains to decline allegiance to me.

An amicable arrangement was afterwards arrived at, but the discussion did harm to the church in the Colony.

12. If, however, a change is to be made in the management of the Cathedral, is this not a fitting time to remedy the mistake of the past, and to consider whether the Bishop ought not to be placed in his proper position with reference to Church work in the Colony? Missionary Bishop, as he is and always has been, even with the Letters Patent - for it was for this that the Endowment Fund of £21,000 was raised - he must always reside several months of the year in Hong Kong, and he cannot avoid taking less interest in the English services carried on.

As a matter of fact, notwithstanding my official position in the Cathedral, I have done more English work in connection with it than either of my predecessors. But there is, after all, something anomalous in my acting as Assistant, and not as Chief.

4. Personally, I have no reason to desire any change. On Sundays, while in the Colony, I have sufficient work to occupy me in conducting Chinese services; during the week, my time is taken up with preparing suitable sermons for the Chinese.
