It further appears that, in their reply of the 19th September, 1879, the Admiralty expressed their acquiescence in this decision of the Foreign Office.

So far as I can learn, there have been no later instructions on this matter; and I have so informed the Admiral and General Commanding Her Majesty's Forces on this station. Accordingly, the customary honours will continue to be paid until further orders, at Hongkong to Her Majesty's Ministers accredited to China and Japan, and to Chinese and Japanese Ministers accredited to Great Britain.
