# Denominational Colleges.

H.

In pursuance of the principles laid down above, and of the general wish of the community, I have, with the advice of the Executive Council, directed that the Central School shall henceforth be designated the Victoria College.

It will be recollected that it was the late Lord Derby (when Lord Stanley), who was Secretary of State for the Colonies from 1841 to 1845, at the time of the annexation of this island to the British Empire. In his despatch No. 21 of the 6th December, 1843, the late Lord Derby signified his approval of the action of the first Governor of the Colony (Sir Henry Pottinger), in honouring the new city of Victoria. I am confident that the present Lord Derby will follow this precedent on the present occasion.

I have the honour to be,

My Lord,

Your Lordship's Most Obedient Humble Servant,
