"College", a term used in Mauritius, Ceylon and many other Colonies. It will be understood that I do not propose at present the establishment of a College in the Oxford or Cambridge sense, or of the term, but merely that a similar designation should be given to the principal school here, as is generally given elsewhere. Moreover, it is not an empty or useless sentiment which induces Colonists to desire to connect their chief institutions with the name or title of the "Sovereign of the Empire".

It may be further remarked that as the chief schools under the management of the Anglican and Roman Catholic Clergy respectively are styled St. Paul's and St. Joseph's Colleges, the continued application of the name of School to the chief educational establishment under the direct control of the Colonial Government, would be misleading and would tend to a belief that the instruction afforded therein is inferior to that afforded in the Denominational.
