The Committee meets this day according to summons.
The minutes of the last Meeting of Committee, held on the 14th instant, are read and confirmed.
### ESTABLISHMENTS.
#### Government Gardens and Plantations.
(1). Read:- Secretary of State's Despatch No. 66 of the 11th April last, intimating the appointment of Mr. ALEXANDER BREMNER WESTLAND as Head Gardener in the Botanical Gardens of this Colony on a salary of $800 per annum.
There being no provision made in the Estimates of the current year for this expenditure, the Committee recommend that the sum of $457.61 be voted, being half pay from 13th April to 27th May, and full pay from 28th May to 30th November 1883.
### SERVICES EXCLUSIVE OF ESTABLISHMENT.
#### Works and Buildings.
(2.) The Committee take into consideration several letters of the Surveyor General, noted in the margin, recommending that votes should be taken for the commencement this year of various Sanitary Works forming part of the scheme of Mr. CHADWICK:
(a.) Central Market:--For the acquisition of 13 lots of ground, on which shops and other private buildings have been erected, which lots are required for the purpose of extending the area of this overcrowded market. Estimated expenditure $150,000.
(b.) Causeway Bay:--For the reclamation of Causeway Bay, which is a fetid swamp causing much fever in the neighbourhood. Estimated cost $30,000, of which $15,000 is asked to be voted on account this year.
