that any change should be made in the rate, at which Policemen should receive half-pay or pension in England, but they are to remain on the same footing as other members of the Service in respect of these matters, as they are only being put on a similar footing (to the others) in respect of Remittances.

4. In regard to the statements in Mr. Marsh's memorandum again, I would point out, as I remarked in paragraph 4 of my despatch no. 78 of 14th May last, that the question of conversion does not affect that portion of salary which is drawn in the Colony, where a Dollar in all probability has a greater purchasing power than 3/7 in England, and as regards Pensions, the Policemen now in the Colony have enlisted for a third period of five years.
