- some illustrations in my despatch 7.81 of the 23rd instant), there can be no doubt but that the creation here, as in other Colonies, of the Office of Assistant Colonial Secretary, - and the appointment to it of so well-qualified a gentleman as Mr Lockhart, will lead to a real and substantial economy by enabling Mr. Marsh to devote sufficient time to a proper audit of the Public accounts. It is equally certain that another result will be a greatly increased efficiency and regularity in the other Departments; the heads of which will no longer be liable to be disturbed as often as a temporary vacancy may occur in the office of Colonial Secretary.
