The statement of prisoner Brown as to what occurred before the assault, which I admit, is correct on the whole, the only part he omitted to state was that he threatened to let the superintendent know what I had been saying of him.

I do not know what he meant. It is not true that I struck him. She was down. She got up while he was on his feet. I have received a great deal of annoyance from Brown. What he says about my threatening to settle an old score with him is not true. (No questions from Brown)

Brown was never on the bed, he was really sitting and partly reclining there. He did get on his feet, but was struck several blows whilst on the bed.
