I should mention that the Major-General Commanding on this station entirely agrees with me on this subject.

I need scarcely assure Your Lordship that I am, personally, most anxious to co-operate cordially with the War Office in England, and with the local Military Authorities here, in all measures calculated to improve and extend the now very imperfect defences of this outpost of the British Empire.
