referring your letter to the Colonial Engineer for report, adding that the danger to public health which appears to be disclosed by it renders it necessary for the administration to take immediate action under the provisions of the Contagious Diseases Ordinance. Directions have also been given for the employment of energetic measures for the suppression of so-called "sly" brothels.
I beg to forward for your consideration a copy of the report of the Colonial Surgeon.
It will be observed that Dr. Dymott mentions that, "on several occasions of complaint, 'Principal Surgeons have been present at the medical examination of the women accused of having communicated the venereal disease." I would suggest that it might perhaps be well if you were to direct one or more of the Naval Surgeons to place themselves, for the same purpose, in communication with Dr. Dymott, that they might be able to make useful recommendations as to further precautions.
I hope that you will always communicate with me in the most unreserved manner respecting all subjects of interest to Her Majesty's Service.
I have, &c.
