to transmit, for Your Lordship's information, copies of a letter addressed to me on this subject by Vice-Admiral Hopkins, Commanding Her Majesty's Naval Forces on this station, of my reply; and of a report by the Colonial Surgeon (Dr Ayres).
I find that those who are best qualified to judge agree with Dr Ayres in the opinion that disease is propagated almost entirely in the unregistered brothels; therefore, by women who undergo no medical examination. It will be seen from his further letter, that Admiral Willes also takes this view.
