A further check upon the conduct of the young workers is the amount of work to be prepared for the following day, neglect of which would be speedily betrayed.
I checked on the stub (2) with the exception of one, a young man of delicate health who returned punctually at 9 from a visit to the doctor; all of which must be regarded as a remarkable coincidence if the young men are supposed to be irregular in their habits.
I may add that on a surprise visit I myself recently paid, at 8.45 P.M. on a fine night, when some attractions were offered at a neighbouring theatre, I found everything most correct and orderly, the students being engaged diligently at their work with satisfactory supervision.
If, however, direct supervision is deemed indispensable, the only suggestion that can be made without additional expense is that the students should occupy two rooms in some buildings.
