Company. I believe Messrs Birley and Company's stables which cover 1500 square feet and which abut against the police station could be purchased for $4,000. With this extension of frontage it would be possible to erect a suitable building, capable of affording married quarters to six Europeans at a cost of $9000, making the total outlay of $13,000.
The health of men at this station is reported fair and I find neither overcrowding nor any other insanitary defect. I think it may be desirable to give the Inspector in charge of the station an additional room later on, but I abstain from recommending any expenditure of money on this building until the completion of the new Police Barracks at Kowloon Point, for it is perhaps not impossible that the increased accommodation at the latter may ease the Yau Ma Ti Station.
