I joined the Colonial Service in 1866, and served for a period of eight years on the West Coast of Africa.
I served in Command of the Governor's Yacht, Jaler... for a period of about five months in the Steamer Pluto. Emails to Wettlements.
In April 1875 I came to Hong Kong as Assistant Harbour Master, and during my leave, on several occasions, the Marine Magistrate performed his duties.
