7. As for Education, - I shall give earnest attention to this subject of vital importance; and I shall report my views, when matured after full consideration of the local peculiarities of this Colony. For the present, I will only state that I have given directions for the immediate carrying out of Your Lordship's instructions in the Yeter despatch 125 of the 30th December with, respecting the Central School, and the correction of other matters.
8. I would further observe that I am surprised and disappointed to find that comparatively slight efforts have hitherto been made to spread a knowledge of the English language, among the heterogeneous population of this Colony.
