Are they to be allowed to remit one half their pay at 4/2? If not they should be distinctly told so in writing. The Captain Superintendent of Police thinks in that case their pay will have to be increased.
J. Are married men to be engaged? I have recommended that no married quarters should be provided in future for any below the rank of sergeant.
Are they to be allowed to re-engage after expiration of five years? I recommend that it should be distinctly understood that Government is not bound to re-engage any men hereafter sent out. It can always be left to do so if desirable and the men willing.
Are they to have a claim to pensions as hitherto after ten years' service, or only after 15 years service as recently recommended (see my Despatch No. 31 of 1883)?
6. Are they to receive bounties after five years service, if instead of going home they are re-enlisted here for a further period?
