per month, the amount to be paid

by Company to be reduced in proportion. Art: 15- The English Eastern Extension Telegraph Company paying

its own

costs of rent, extras, Coolies, agent, lighting, stationery etc., and the Chinese Telegraph Administration pay for the maintenance of the Land lines from Shanghai to Woosung.

Art:16. All the above articles shall be inspected by the managers of the two Companies both in English and Chinese and signed in full.

The same shall be submitted to

the Customs Taotai of Shanghai and the English Consul for signatures. Afterwards the said articles shall be sent to the Northern and Southern

superintendents of Chinese Trade, the Zongli Yamen and the Diplomatic Minister for approval.

Should there be

any dispute arising from the said articles the Chinese Version shall take precedence. Signed in Shanghai on the 31st day of March, 1883, the 25th day of the 3rd month of

the 9th year of Kwang-Sheu.
