of Companies and other matters which local Ordinances have placed within the scope of this office have also to be mentioned.

The appointment of Two Deputy Registrars, one of whom is to act as Accountant, has not in my way lessened the work to be performed by the Registrar, or diminished his responsibility. These officers will attend no doubt to many details and other mechanical labour which have hitherto fallen to the Registrar, but the actual management of, and responsibility attached to Bankrupt and Intestate Estates, besides the control and supervision of the whole office charged by the Registrar, and the only effect of this on his staff will be to set free some part of his time for more serious and important duties which hitherto he has not been able to attend.

A great part of the Registrar's time is taken up receiving Solicitors and others who come to see him on many matters or questions arising in the course of business during office hours, and my time is so occupied by this, and by attending to every detail of the office, that I am obliged to devote time beyond office hours to all work or reports which require any consideration.

Had the Registrar last year received the emoluments and fees enjoyed by Mr. Alexander, the result would have been as follows:
