In addition to these, the present holder has been appointed Registrar of Companies without any additional salary, and Official Trustee.

The salary now attached to the office of Registrar is four thousand eight hundred dollars per annum plus two hundred dollars as Official Trustee.

This I submit is an insufficient remuneration for the labour and responsibility which fall upon the officer holding these appointments.

His duties as Registrar are many and important. Besides the ordinary duties of a Registrar, he fills the corresponding role of Clerk in the offices of Master and Registrar in the Common-law and Chancery divisions, and in these capacities, matters involving delicate, intricate, and important questions are referred to him.

Amongst others, I may mention:

1. Accounts in matters pending in Original Jurisdiction.

2. Accounts of Administrators, Receivers.

3. Enquiries into questions of Titles, validity of Sales, and questions arising in administration suits.

The Registrar has also to tax costs which, by Section 94 of Ordinance No. 13 of 1873, are left to his discretion until a scale of fees is passed, and to take commissions de bene esse.

Besides these and many other matters which must be performed by the Registrar personally, he has the general supervision of the office.
