658 took the customary Oaths of Office which were administered by Chief Justice, (Sir George Phillippo), in the presence of the Legislative Council, and of a large number of the leading inhabitants, and I then delivered the short address, of which a copy is annexed, and which was very favourably received.

A full account of the proceedings referred to will be found in the Colonial Newspapers which will be forwarded as usual. The customary Proclamation of my assumption of Office as Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Hongkong and its Dependencies, has been published in the Government Gazette.
