Military Authorities; by the Anglican and Roman Catholic Bishops; by the Consuls of Foreign Powers, resident here; by the Chief English settlers; and by a great concourse of the Chinese and other inhabitants of this Colony of various races and creeds. The customary Naval and Military honours were paid to the Representative of the Queen, not only by Her Majesty's ships and Forts but also by the Admirals in Command, respectively, of the American and French Squadrons in the China seas, whose Flag ships are now in this harbour. There are now anchored here, together with a large fleet of Mercantile steamers and sailing ships, twenty (20) men-of-war of different nations; viz., eleven (11) English; four (4) French, two (2) American; two (2) Chinese; and One (1) Spanish.
