This is less than what Opium pays at Canton. It is more than $2 each. The duty altogether brings $102 a chest.

Sto Amei. Secretary of On. Jai Insurance Co. Chairman of Jung Wa Hospital furnishes estimates the opium boiled for export to California yearly at 2,400 chests.

Chap Lee Satt Chung of Wo Sang Shing Company states that the supply of Foreign Opium is about 2,800 chests of which he supplied from Penang to his Macao. His estimate is therefore 2,500.
