boiled and reported, and how much is boiled and consumed locally paying duly.

As has been already stated the Tung Long succeeded in getting the monopoly for the year 1862, but the Yau Wo Company got it next year, and held it till March 1873 when the Wo Stang hong again succeeded in getting the Monopoly, this time for three years.

The Yan Wo Company for the second time went to Macao where they traded for a while, but it is said at a loss, notwithstanding that their "Chops" or trade marks were the favorite ones in America and Australia and brought much higher prices than the "Chops" of the Wo-Stang or Ching Kong.

After a short opposition the Yan Wo made terms with the Chap Fung Company and an agreement was drawn up by which they were admitted into the privileges of the monopoly farms, and the terms of the Agreement were very favourable to the Chap Fung or Wo-n-tang Hong. A copy of the agreement will be found at page 7-33 of the Appendix.
