In 1872 Governor Sir Arthur Kennedy appointed a commission to enquire into the Opium Revenue. Its report is published in the Government Gazette of 1872.
Not the largest supporters of the trade considered that 4000 Chests were boiled here, while there were those who had an interest in keeping down the figures headed the amount to be about 1500 or 1600 chests.
