for the boarders (as they have

always been and will be very few) that we

came to the determination of having New college built, but it was simply for the reason that the former building in

Caine Road, was not suitable - we got a beautiful site at Elenealy which cost $5000. Ms. Danby

a well known Civil Engineer was instructed to prepare the plans which were Submitted to the Acting Surveyor General Mr. Boodler.

The site, the plans, the specifications and The Particulars were shown on the occasion

of

in the 3rd November, when

His Excellency the late Governor

of Hong Kong Sir John Pope Hennessy, who in a public

speech, which His Excellency delivered on

that occasion proved to be much Satisfied

to clearly assert that "that School (the New St. Joseph's College)

will

also receive under the regulations framed

by the Secretary of State a considerable sum towards the Building of the School.

The building having been started I acted on behalf of the Lordship the Vicar Apostolic to the then Acting Colonial

Secretary
