$480 per annum will also rise by yearly increments of $96 to $1920 per annum, which, added to the estimated value of quarters, fuel, and lighting, would bring his emoluments up to $2400 a year.
It is proposed to give him a salary of $2640 as Sanitary Inspector and an allowance of $20 a month for conveyance. I do not think that this salary unreasonable considering the nature of the duties to be performed and M. McCallum's qualifications as Chemist, which will be found most useful in his new post.
I therefore strongly recommend Mr. McCallum for this appointment. I know of no one else in the Colony so well fitted for the duties that the Sanitary Inspector will be called on to perform.
3. I have asked the Surveyor General and Colonial Surgeon to consider and report what should be the working sanitary Staff, and I have the honour to submit for Your Lordship's consideration their recommendations.
