Lordship's approval the post of one of : the Auditors of the Hongkong and Shanghai Bank. I did not think
that this post, which
gives no part whatever in the management of the Bank and which will occupy only a few hours twice a
year and therefore will in no way
interfere with Mr. Lister's
public duties, came within the
scope of the prohibition contained in Lord Kimberley's
Circular despatch of 9th September 1880.
I enclose a copy
of Mr Lister's letter dated 8th January and beg to
submit his application for Your Lordship's approval.
