returns for 1882 are

satisfactory.

The increase in

expenditure as compared with '88 arises principally from Works and Buildings and Roads Streets and Bridges. The increase of $13,226.29 shown for Establishments was sanctioned in the Estimates which provided for $42,000, more than has been expended in the Colony.

The total local Expenditure is $86,000 below the Estimates but the Crown Agents' accounts have to be added to this and they will include materials and tools for the Tytam Water Works, the cost of which was not provided for in last year's Estimates.
