are now required for the use of the Civil Government and will probably before long have to be pulled down to be replaced by larger and more commodious structures I beg to recommend that this Government should be authorized to purchase this lot from the Military Authorities in accordance with the stipulation consented to in Sir. H. K. Storks' letter Ga16243 of 13th June 1873 which was enclosed in Mr. Herbert's despatch before referred to.

The importance of retaining possession of this ground has been recognized by Lord Kimberley's Despatch N. 133 of 26th October 1881. The Acting Colonial Secretary, Treasurer and the Surveyor General are all of opinion that the Lot should be purchased without further delay.
