(3.) Read:—Letter No. 126 of the 24th October last, from the Superintendent Warder Gaol, recommending an increase of salary at the rate of $5 per month to Assistant Warder LINCOLN.
C.8.0. 3331 of 1882. Gratuity to Constable LI NAM

The Committee find that the late Mr. TONNOCK, and Dr. AYRES in 1877 recommended an annual increment for this appointment, which was approved by Governor HENNESSY. They note that the Gaol authorities omitted to make any reference to it in their draft Estimates. The Committee therefore recommend the vote.

Police Pensions, Gratuities, &c.
(4.) Read:-Letter No. 302, of the 31st October last, from the Captain Superintendent of Police, recommending a gratuity to Constable LI NAM in consequence of his being compelled to retire from the service upon Medical Certificate.
C.8.0. 4368 of 1882. Gratuity to Constable LI NAM
The Committee find that LI NAM has been in the Police Force for 8½ years, and that he received the usual bonus after his first 5 years' service; they therefore recommend a gratuity, equal to one month's pay for every year of service for the last 3 years. LI NAM's pay being at the rate of $8 per month, equal to $28.
Observatory,
(8.) Read:---A Minute by His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government, requesting a re-vote of $18,680 for the erection of the Observatory.
The Committee find that no provision has been made in the Estimates for 1883, and that out of the $20,000, voted for 1882, only $1,179 has been expended. Under the circumstances, the Committee do not hesitate in recommending the re-vote.
The Chairman adjourns the Committee sine die.

Works and Buildings.
(5.) Read:-Surveyor General's letter No. 248, of the 14th November last, for a sum of $5,000, $3,000 for the erection of a Public Mortuary.
C.S.O. 284 of 1882.
The Committee find that the present Dead House at the Government Civil Hospital is unfit for the purpose, and consider the erection of a Public Mortuary essentially necessary on sanitary grounds, and recommend therefore that the sum asked for by the Surveyor be voted.
Miscellaneous Services.
(6.) Read-A statement of account prepared by the Chairman of the Education Commission, dated 1st November, 1882, detailing the expenses incurred in connexion with the Education Commission, amounting to $947.30, as follows:-

1. Honorarium to Mr. TRAVERS, who acted as Secretary from 15th March, 1882, $150.00
2. Mr. Cox, Reporter's Bill, as per agreement, $239.50

The Committee consider the charges reasonable, and recommend that the amount be voted.
(7.) Read:---A Petition dated the 4th November last, from NG A-PAU, late Compradore at Government House, for a gratuity in consequence of his long service and retirement on account of old age.
C.8.0. 9902 of 1884. Gratuity to NG AFAU
The Committee find that NG A-FAU has been employed as Custodian of Government House furniture for many years, although the post has only recently been made a Government appointment. Under the circumstances, the Committee recommend a gratuity of $150.
