The Minutes of the last Meeting of the Committee, held on the 7th November last, are read and confirmed.

Payments in excess of the Estimates for 1883:---

ESTABLISHMENTS.

Surveyor General.

(1.) Read:-Surveyor General's letter No. 150 of the 14th July last, recommending Mr. E. THOMPSON, Overseer of the Protestant Cemetery, for an increase to his present salary of $25 per month.

The Committee find Mr. THOMPSON has been in the service since 1873, and that he is very highly spoken of by his superiors. Under the circumstances the Committee recommend an increase of $5 per month to his present salary.

Gaol.

C.8.0.

813 of 1882. Additional salary to Assistant Turnkey.

(2.) Read:-Letter No. 128 of the 30th October last, from the Superintendent of Victoria Gaol, asking for authority to incur an expenditure of $2 a month, for six months, to make up the difference of pay in providing a locum tenens for Assistant Turnkey DAIN KHAN while on leave.

The Committee find that DAIN KHAN is entitled to half pay leave, and that the available half pay, being only $8, is insufficient for paying a locum tenens; the Committee therefore consider the application reasonable, and recommend that the amount be voted.
