The Midfeather is a cast iron partition composed of a series of webbed and flanged plutes set on edge- one upon another and bolted together, the edges being plined and watertight joints secured by co pucking of rust cement between the plate-flanges: at an interval of every 21 feet vertical the midfeather is pierced by a circular crifice with flanged lip to which is bolted an 18 inch sluice valve worked by gearing from the hop. There are five of these vulves, each connecting at its own level with a vertical standard delivery pipe that stands in the dry compartment of the valvewell parallel to the Midfeuther.
The
- advantage of the vertical pipe is obvious in that it admits of the delivery of the water under pressure while it keeps every portion of the valve gearing and outlet culvert cry and accessible for inspection of repair
without the inconvenience that attends the usual method

of delivery by which the water is dashed in the form of a enturact from the Sluice valve above; the flour of the valve well whence it excupes through

Over the valve well on the top of the dam will be erected a small valve house from which the daily supply to the Town will be regulated by the manipulation of the spindles that connect with the valves. The valve house should have a Glass roof to enable the light to penetrate to the bottom of the vulve well. The minor features of the Ironwork in the well are sufficiently detailed in the drawings and do not require any further explanation.
Inlet Culvert. The submerged or inlet Culvert running under the dam from the reservoir
into the valve well will be built at a level
